The KinetiksA Smile'd Crack Your FaceIt's The Music meeting Supergrass at the end of the Britpop era, with all the requisite cheeky charm and swagger. Dublin's The Kinetiks have played support to Young Knives, Fiery Furnaces and The Enemy, and look set to take their own stage by storm pretty soon. A fireball of po-going, hook-chocka indie pop is the only fit description for what this four-piece bring - it's old-fashioned song structures, but done with an admiral zest and excitement - and that's what makes downloads like 'A Smile'd Crack Your Face' so immediate. Slow PanicCrushed LoveWith their foreboding electro beats, this London quartet are fronted by the effervescent, enticing Lena. And if "Slow Panic is realising the truth and knowing that you cannot tell anyone", then fans of Portishead and Death In Vegas will be missing out. Damn straight. More? Well...the songs are formed with such fragility and have an icy cold layer thrown on top to make you stand up and pay attention. Chilling and discordant, Slow Panic have definitely got something different to offer. Andymac1980Carry From MeAndymac1980 is a classic tunesmith who hails from the overshadowed town of Middlesbrough, in North-East England. For his influences, head a bit to the west, as he combines the melodic verve of The Las with the bluesy swagger of The Zutons. 'Carry From Me' is delicate and swooning, with an instantly likeable chorus. All of his songs have a chilled-out vibe and, while his stories might tell of the trials of love and lust, his knowing and powerful voice adds a tangible air of authority and experience. Silver SidedMore Than I NeedHailing from Hertfordshire, England, the four members of Silver Sided struck gold in the summer of 2006-when they got together and started making waves in the music world. Producing a punk rock vibe that often never makes it past the garage or basement where practice is usually held, Silver Sided has pop appeal. Much like the grungy rockers behind Blink 182 (they started out playing for the soul purpose of making fans scream while ripping off their t-shirts, rather than hounding major record labels), Silver Sided unintentionally produces the kind of catchy choruses and driving guitar flourishes that will have radio DJs and major record labels alike, begging for bragging rights. |
