new demo: ’This Feeling (I Don't Understand)’
03/10/2007 13:47:08 By punX
The single is taking shape. At least we finished writing and demoing one of the b-sides for the single. It's a song called 'This Feeling (I Don't Understand)' and is the punkiest new wave bubblegum song we've ever done and is about being 16, going out with friends, hanging out on roundabouts and arcade halls and telling the world to fuck off.
Pogo-beat galore with crashing guitars and a gloriously dumb bassline carries slightly hyper-active early Undertones-kinda vocals. There're some wicked chord changes in this tune, to say so myself :)
It would be terribly cool to hear this on daytime radio, maybe it shouldn't be a B-Side afterall ... hmmm
Aren't B-Sides the undeserved underdogs of songs? Pushed aside by listeners and ignored by the media.
We want the B-Side tracks of a quality in line with amazing B-Side classics such as 'Aquiesence' (Oasis), 'My Insatiable One' (Suede), 'Liza Radly' (The Jam), 'Treasure, Whatever Happened To Pete The Chop' (U2) or 'Sweet and Tender Hooligan' (The Smiths). Let's see if we can pull this off. This song really arrived from out of nowhere, started life as an odd electropunk nonsense then went acoustic and suddenly changed its guise again to have more in common with the Buzzcocks, Skids, or that early Yeah Yeah Yeah's EP.
We decided on 'This Feeling (I Don't Understand)' out of about 10 possible new ideas for the single. The demo of 'This Feeling' will be up on our www.myspace.com/sereneworld page over the next couple of days - only the mixing needs some more tweaking.
We love this tune so much, we might be able to twist arms and convince people to put the demo up on this store for you.

Serene to record debut 45 ... keep the 7" alive!
03/10/2007 13:41:46 By punX
Things are finally moving forward ... Serene have been approached to release our cover of 'Arnold Layne' as our debut 7".
We're aiming to re-record the track (the version up here and on our MySpace page www.myspace.comsereneworld is the original 'punX mansion' demo). We're currently rehearsing and scouting for a studio / producer.
Currently London or Berlin are likely places. Some interesting possibilities - hopefully it will all swing out as great as it sounds so far.
And while at it ... if you are a photographer or graphic designer (or know someone) please feel free to get in touch with us.
As you can imagine, these things do take time but we hope to have more details very very soon.

new demo: 'Ha! Ha! Ha!'
03/10/2007 13:39:04 By punX
we recorded a new song the other day, titled 'Ha! Ha! Ha!' ... Ha! Should be up on our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/sereneworld) in the next few days.
We all reckon that it's got a killer riff on both bass and guitar. Check it out - let's know what you think about it.
It got a nice Magazine-meets-Jah Wobble influence.
Cheers

’Arnold Layne (original punX mansion demo)'
03/10/2007 13:35:39 By punX
Serene have recorded a cover of the Syd Barrett penned Pink Floyd track 'Arnold Layne'. Without doubt Syd Barrett has been a big influence on Serene.
Our 'original punX mansion demo' has received a lot of positive feedback. We can't say more but as it stands, a label has picked up on our version of 'Arnold Layne' and wants to released this on a 7" single. Stay tuned!
Why 'original punX mansion demo'?
it's the original demo we recorded at my flat. Mansion? Ah well ... your dream is the place to be ;)
For the musos ... The bass was recorded straight into Cubase via a Behringer 'Bass V-Amp'. There are two guitars. The one in the far back is Cornel's Fender Stratocaster at least 50% before the guitar stopped working. For the remaining takes Cornel used his Fender Telecaster Custom Deluxe ... maybe it was a sign from Syd, who used to play Tele's.
The 'solo' is another tribute to Syd Barrett - a wild psychedelic bottleneck slide.
The guitars went as usual through two Memory Man Deluxe echo units and MXR Dyna Comp. We had no time miking amps, so we used the Lineout of a little Vox Pathfinder-10 practice amp instead.
The vocals went through a Behringer C-1 condenser mike into a Behringer MIC200 Tube Preamp before going onto Cubase.
We hope you like it.
