The Loft - new single out now

22/06/2006 By The Loft

The Loft – new single as download here. The Loft, ‘’Godfathers of UK indie’, release their new single ‘’Model Village’ c/w ‘Rickety Frame’ as a download on June 22nd The Loft stormed to the top of the independent charts in the mid-80s with two classic Creation Records singles – ‘Why Does The Rain’ and ‘Up The Hill & Down The Slope’ -before the band famously split up onstage, one hot June night in 1985, in front of 3,000 fans at the famous Hammersmith Palais. Now, just 21 years later, the band have recorded a batch of new songs after a string of live shows to promote the retrospective collection ‘Magpie Eyes’ which was released late last year on Revola. The original line up of Peter Astor, Dave Morgan, Bill Prince and Andy Strickland have won rave reviews for their comeback shows from old and new fans alike. But the band didn’t want to just play the old ‘hits’ and began working on new material from their first rehearsal onwards. The Loft was one of the most influential bands of the early 80s with musicians such as Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield and Nicky Wire queuing up to acknowledge their influence on the independent music scene of the 80s and beyond. Now they deliver two new songs in the classic two guitar bass and drums mould that made their name. ‘Model Village’ is a gentle study of life in the miniature world of school houses, bars and lovers lanes, with a killer chorus and a Faces guitar lick to boot. ‘Rickety Frame’ is an altogether more muscular offering, Astor and Strickland trading blistering guitar licks that will see many younger guitar slingers hanging their heads in shame. The single is also available on limited edition 7 inch vinyl with picture sleeve on the Static Caravan label, from all good indpendent record shops now.
